Los Lobos
3-Time Grammy-Winning Latin Band

Three-time Grammy-winners Los Lobos, the sons of Los Angeles’ predominantly Hispanic East Side, have transformed their life experiences into a powerful legacy of uncommon, affecting music. Founded in the early 1970s by friends David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Louie Perez, and Conrad Lozano, Los Lobos began as a traditional Mexican band but was later transformed by strong rock and roll influences. Their hybrid sound became the key to their success and popularity.

After years of gigging in local L.A. clubs, Los Lobos signed with Slash Records and subsequently released …And a time to Dance in 1983. A song from the record, the traditional two-step Anselma, put Los Lobos on the national map with a Grammy Award in the newly created category of Mexican-American performance. Their rise to prominence continued throughout the mid-80s as the band released chart-topping albums and toured internationally.

Los Lobos attained an unprecedented level of commercial success after director Luis Valdez asked the band to create the soundtrack for La Bamba. Released in 1987, the film was a smash hit. The soundtrack sold over two million copies, and Los Lobos went on to contribute to the scores of Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and The Mambo Kings. Los Lobos’ subsequent albums (Kiko, Colossal Head, This Time, and most recently, Good Morning Aztlan) simultaneously revisited traditional forms while forging ahead into new musical territory, adding to Los Lobos’ diverse and culturally rich musical legacy.
