The Academy’s San Francisco Chapter proudly presents Post-Vinyl: From the Studio to the Stage
On August 14, the San Francisco Chapter and P&E Wing of the Recording Academy hosted professionals from the dance, electronic and technical music communities at Post-Vinyl: From The Studio to the Stage. Sponsored by M-Audio, the event offered sessions, workshops, and panel discussions led by industry luminaries, plus exhibitions from a host of manufacturers.
M-Powered artist Ken Jordan (The Crystal Method) kicked off the Producers' Workshop with a keynote address. The audience responded with questions about his creative process, gear, and the current state of DJ culture. Remix magazine’s Kylee Swenson followed on Jordan’s heels, moderating a panel of producers, artists, DJs and label executives.
During a break between discussions, attendees had the opportunity to experience the cutting edge of music creation technology for themselves. M-Audio demonstrated the power of Propellerhead Reason 2.5 and brand-new Ableton Live 4 running in conjunction with the FireWire 410 audio interface, Keystation 61es USB MIDI controller, and Solaris multi-pattern condenser microphone.
Post-Vinyl attendees also had the opportunity to enter the studio with some of the Bay Area's best producers and DJs. At Pyramind, biL, Dave Earl (dBs) and RTFM, DJ F, Ean Golden, J. Boogie, Jay-J, Kaskade and Kepi led attendees through demos of their production techniques in intimate workshop settings.
The event concluded with a party and networking reception at StudioZ, where many of the workshop artists thrilled the crowd with live performances and DJ sets. In the main room, the lineup included Artemis and RTFM, biL, Breakshop featuring DJ F, J. Boogie, Kepi and Kat, Sen-Sei with guest DJ Andrew Phelan, and Charles Stella featuring Soul Rebel. In the adjacent Listening Lounge, record label representatives treated party guests to a first listen to upcoming releases and a live performance by jAswhO?.
