Duncan Sheik Solicits a Few (Thousand) Remixes
Grammy-Winning Artist Taps M-Audio to Collaborate on Bonus Remix DVD for New White Limousine Album
When it came time to release his latest album, White Limousine, artist Duncan Sheik wanted to give his fans something different than a standard collection of songs. When the formal production of the album was completed, Sheik teamed up with M-Audio to create a companion DVD that allows fans to remix each of the tracks. While known as a singer/songwriter with a predominantly acoustic rock sound, Sheik is well versed in music technology. He and his band are all equipped with laptops and a variety of M-Audio gear that enable them to create music while on the road.

Sheik’s fifth and latest album, White Limousine, was recorded with a live band and features contributions by guitarist Gerry Leonard (David Bowie band) and the London Session Orchestra. The DVD portion of the release contains all of the individual tracks for each song as well as instructions for downloading a free demo version of Ableton Live, with which anyone can remix and experiment with the constituent parts of the songs. Additionally, advanced users can load the standard 16-bit/44.1kHz WAV versions of Sheik’s White Limousine tracks into a variety of other popular DAWs, including all versions of Pro Tools, Ableton Live 5, Apple Logic Pro and GarageBand, Cakewalk SONAR and many others.

“I think it’s important that other people take my work and make it different,” says Sheik. “By playing with the looping and plug-ins in Live, you’re able to make these sonic objects that are really, really cool. There are people out there who are great at weaving artists’ original textures together into new music and genres. That’s what the White Limousine remixes are all about.”
