Gareth Jones: From Wire to Depeche Mode
Seminal producer relies on GForce software synths
Gareth Jones has worked with some of the most cutting edge acts of the last 30 years including Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Garbage, Vince Clarke, Nitzer Ebb and Wire. So it's fair to say that Jones knows the sound of a good synthesizer. And while one might assume that Jones is a complete hardware devotee, the opposite is actually true. Jones is a huge fan to the current crop of software emulation instruments, especially the GForce line.

“I am very software orientated,” he says. “And I am excited to see this proliferation of digital technology including soft synths and virtual instruments. I use the Oddity, M-Tron and the Minimonsta, and I'm just getting to grips with the impOSCar. I find the emulations really inspiring and convenient with extra features that the originals lack. The price and portability are also extremely important. To me, worrying if the software version sounds like the original is irrelevant. I don't own the originals, I don't want to own the originals, and I never will own the originals!”

“I use the GForce synths all over the place,” he relates. “The new Erasure LP that we'll be making this year will be full of GForce synths!”
