Noise when changing the digital output format
Text size [-] [+]

Q: When an external ADAT optical device is running synchronized to the FireWire 1814 or ProjectMix I/O, why do I hear a loud squeal when I change the digital output format to S/PDIF in the M-Audio FireWire control panel?

A: The external device may not recognize the change of digital formats fast enough and continue to treat the received signal as an ADAT optical signal although it really is in S/PDIF format. Since these formats are different and incompatible to each other, the resulting sound may be digital noise or squealing.

Please do not change the digital output format on the FireWire 1814 or ProjectMix I/O while an external device is running synchronized to it. We recommend disconnecting the digital output cable from the FireWire 1814 or ProjectMix I/O before changing the digital output format.
