Installation Instructions for Windows 98 (Second Edition)

Do not connect the M-Audio Ozone USB to your computer yet! For simplicity, the driver should be installed first!

If this is the first time you install the Ozone USB driver on your computer, please skip the uninstallation instructions and go to step 3 of this guide.

1. If a Ozone driver is currently installed on your system, it will need to be removed before a new driver can be installed. Please click "Start | Programs | M-Audio Ozone | Uninstall Ozone" and follow the instructions on screen.

2. All driver files are being removed from your computer. Once "Uninstall complete" is displayed, click "Close".

3. Download the latest M-Audio Ozone driver from the M-Audio driver download page and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the downloaded driver installation file. The following screen will be displayed; Click next.

4. When you see the "CD Performance Enhancements" screen (see below), make sure to leave both options checked. These settings are necessary e.g. to listen to Audio CDs using your CD-ROM drive. Then click "Next".

5 . The installer will inform you that setup is complete and the software (driver) is now installed. Click "Next".

6. In the last screen of the setup program, you will be asked if you want to restart your computer now. Leave the tick mark in the check box and click "Finish" to restart your computer automatically.

7. Wait until your computer finished starting up completely, then connect the Ozone to an available USB port on your computer, connect the included power supply and turn the Ozone on.

IMPORTANT: Connect the Ozone directly to your computer! Do not use a USB hub - at least not during installation. If you run into any problems during the installation procedure, try a different USB port on your computer and/or check in your Computer's BIOS if the USB port you are connecting to is configured to be able to run in USB 1.1 mode. See your computer's mainboard's documentation for instructions on this. Also, you need to have Windows 98 Second Edition to use USB Audio devices like the M-Audio Ozone. The original release of Windows 98 (without the addendum Second Edition) is not supported.

8. You computer will detect that the Ozone has been connected and will show you the following "Add New Hardware Wizard" screen. Click "Next" in all the upcoming "Add New Hardware Wizard" screens (do not modify any other settings).

9. Click "Finish" in the last screen of the "Add New Hardware Wizard".

10. Some files need to be copied from your Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM. Please insert this disk in your CD-ROM drive and click "OK".

11. While copying files, Windows will detect that a file with an identical name (ksuser.dll) already exists on your computer and ask you if you want to keep the existing file. Click "No" to make sure that the version the Ozone requires will be used.

12. Windows will find another file that already exists with the name "stream.sys" and show the same message as in step 11 of this guide. Also click "No" in this screen.

Give your computer a minute to finish up the installation automatically. Your M-Audio Ozone is now ready to be used.

13 . Connect Outputs 1 and 2 of your Ozone USB to your speakers, mixer, or other amplification device so you can hear the output of the device.

Once you have completed the installation procedure above, a small “M” icon will appear in your system tray (shown below).

Double-click this icon to launch the Ozone control panel. If you have completed both the software and hardware installation properly, it will open without problems.
