Torq's AMPutate Mode allows you to DJ using only one turntable or CD Player.  The idea behind AMPutate mode is that you generally need to manipulate only one song at a time when DJ'ing.  This guide covers hardware connections and software setup for using AMPutate Mode and External Mixer Mode.

Hardware Setup

1. Connect the output of your Turntable or CD Player to Input A of the Conectiv.  Be sure to set the input selector to "Phono" if using a turntable or "Line" if using a CD Player (or turntable with a built-in preamp).

When using a turntable, connect its ground wire to the ground on the Conectiv

2. Connect Output A of the Conectiv to one channel's Line Input on your DJ Mixer.

3. Connect Output B of the Conectiv to another channel's  Line Input on your DJ Mixer.

Do not connect the outputs of the Conectiv to Phono Inputs on your DJ Mixer because your output will be loud and distorted.

4. Connect your headphones to your DJ Mixer and use the Cue Controls of your mixer.

5. Turn both mix knobs to USB to only hear the software output.

6. Connect the Master Output of your DJ Mixer to your Amplifier, Powered Speakers or PA System.

Software Setup

1. Open Torq's Preferences and select the Audio Tab.

2. Verify that "M-Audio USB ASIO" (PC) or "M-Audio Conectiv" (Mac) is selected for Audio Interface and that Mixer Mode is "External".

3. Deck A Output should  be  "Analog 1/2 Conectiv (1) -- Analog 1/2 Conectiv (2)" (PC) or "output 1 -- output 2" (Mac), and Deck B Output should be "Analog 3/4 Conectiv (1) -- Analog 3/4 Conectiv (2)" (PC) or "output 3 -- output 4" (Mac).

4. Click the Control Input A drop-down menu and choose "Line In 1 Conectiv -- Line In 2 Conectiv" (PC) or "input 1 -- input 2" (Mac).

6. Now click the "External Control" tab.

7. Enable External Control and AMPutate Mode by selecting "Yes" in their drop-down menus.

8. AMPutate will use the control source chosen for Control Input A on the Audio Preferences tab, so you must select the Control Type you will be using.  If you'll be using the Torq Control Vinyl records, select "Torq Vinyl" for the Control Type, or select "Torq CD" if you'll be using Torq Control CD's.

9. Clicking a Decks "Vinyl" button will assign External Control to the Deck.

BPM Matching

AMPutate mode differs from Standard Mode because you must use Torq's on-screen Speed sliders to match tempos as opposed to using the pitch sliders on your turntable or CD player.  This is because External Control can be toggled back and forth between the Decks at will.  Any time you do this, you'll want the decks to keep their previous tempos.  The advantage to this setup is you can make use of Torq's automatic beat-matching!  Simply click the Deck's Sync button and it's Speed slider will be moved to match the tempo of the other Deck.
 

Note: Because the AMPutate system allows you to swap control between two independent Decks, the Decks are forced into Relative mode to prevent any undesirable jumps in playback position when toggling control.  Therefore, when using AMPutate mode, you will use the on-screen controls (Fast Forward, Rewind, Overview Waveform, QuickCues, etc.) to set the playback position of the song -- needle drops will not work.
