Plug-in compatibility and automatic mapping with DirectLink and HyperControl
Text size [-] [+]

Q: Do all Instruments and Plug-Ins automatically assign controls with Axiom DirectLink and Axiom Pro HyperControl?

A: DirectLink and HyperControl personality files are written to support a host DAW, not specific Instrument or Plug-ins.  Instrument and Plug-in parameters are automatically mapped based on the default parameter order as set by the manufacturer.  If a particular Instrument or Plug-in does not automatically map controls to Axiom (2nd gen) or Axiom Pro, this parameter order is not being provided by the plug-in manufacturer.  Please refer to the plug-in’s documentation to find out if it can be remotely controlled via MIDI.  Many plug-ins have MIDI learn functionality which allow you to make custom assignments; or the manufacturer may provide a chart detailing the plug-ins parameters and the associated MIDI CC that controls it.  With this list you can program your device accordingly.

Pro Tools features a Control Surface Learn mode that enables you to remap controls with DirectLink or HyperControl.  Please refer to the Pro Tools User Guide for more information.

To use any other application’s MIDI Learn feature, or to use the MIDI CC’s you programmed the controller to send, Axiom (2nd gen) users must disable DirectLink for the group of controls by pressing the corresponding Group Button.  Axiom Pro users must set HyperControl mode to Transport but pressing Edit, then “0” (zero) for Transport mode.  When DirectLink is enabled for a group, or when HyperControl mode is set to Normal; the controls are hard-wired to the predefined controls.
