Configuring M-Audio Key Rig for use with Micro USB on Windows XP

Before following the steps in this guide, you must first have the latest drivers installed for the M-Audio Micro USB:

Micro, Windows XP Installation

It is also recommended that you update to the latest version of Key Rig by installing the Key Rig Updater.  After installing the updater it is not necessary to authorize Key Rig.

1. With the M-Audio Micro USB installed and connected to your computer, launch Key Rig.

2. Select Preferences... from the M-Audio Key Rig menu:

Select ASIO: M-Audio USB ASIO in the Audio Device drop down menu.

3. Click "OK".

4. You are now ready to using your M-Audio Micro USB with Key Rig.

Note: Please plug your computer speaker system or headphones into the audio output jack of the M-Audio Micro USB

Latency is a delay that occurs between performing an action (such as pressing a key on a keyboard) and hearing a sound through your speakers (or headphones).  M-Audio's advanced drivers virtually eliminate this latency and help keep action and sound together.  This latency can be adjusted by changing the buffer size from the M-Audio Micro control panel.  To access this, right click on the M-Audio icon in the System Tray and select Open M-Audio Micro control panel.

The Micro control panel can also be accessed from the Windows Control Panel when Classic View is enabled:

If the Control Panel is in Category View, click Switch to Classic View on the left-hand side.

On the Latency tab, this slider allows you to adjust the buffer size.

The lower the number, the lower the latency.  However, as this number decreases, the processing demands placed on your computer increase.  The default setting of "256" should work well for many computers, however, should you experience pops and clicks, you will need to increase this setting.
