Q: What microphones are compatible with the MicroTrack II?
A: The MicroTrack II delivers optimized performance when coupled with high-quality condenser microphones. The 1/4" TRS inputs allow you to use balanced XLR-to-TRS cables for professional-quality results. Electret condenser microphones requiring electret power must be connected to the 1/8” input. Battery powered condenser microphones with a balanced output should be connected to the 1/4” TRS inputs using balanced cables with phantom power turned off*.
Dynamic microphones can be used, however due to the low sensitivity of a dynamic microphone it's necessary to boost input gain, resulting in a higher noise level. For best quality results we recommend phantom powered condenser or electret microphones.
The 1/4" TRS inputs require balanced cables. Unbalanced microphones should be connected to the 1/8” input jack for best results. You can change your input source from the MicroTrack II’s Main Menu>Record Settings>Input Source.
Please see this article for information about connecting phantom powered microphones.
Please see this article for information about using balanced vs. unbalanced cables.
* Some battery powered condenser microphones, such as the Audio Technica AT822, can be damaged if phantom power is applied. Please refer to your microphones documentation to avoid possible damage to your microphone or the MicroTrack II.
