With Axiom (2nd gen) keyboards, do not press the Patch Up/Down buttons immediately after using the Octave/Transpose buttons.  Wait 1-2 seconds for the display to stop flashing and then use the Patch Up/Down buttons.  If the Patch buttons are pressed while the Octave/Transpose is still flashing, they will control Octave/Transpose.
