The M-Audio ProjectMix Control MIDI Application enables you to reprogram the MIDI messages sent by the ProjectMix controls in MIDI Mode.
This application includes a Control Surface Firmware Updater* (version 10.19.05.A). This firmware update is for the Control Surface functionality only; it does not have any impact on the device's ability to be recognized or communicate with the computer.
Control Surface Firmware 10.19.05.A
BEFORE updating the firmware, please turn your ProjectMix off and back on to check its current firmware version. If it displays “Running Firmware Version 10.19.05.A” you already have the latest Control Surface Firmware and SHOULD NOT attempt to update this firmware. Attempting to install this firmware update on an unqualified operating system, or if the latest firmware is already installed, can render your device inoperable.
The DFU Firmware that controls the audio device is included and installed automatically during the driver installation. If this firmware is not updated during driver installation, then you have the latest version of the DFU firmware. If your device is not recognized, please refer to the FAQ's and troubleshooting guides on the Knowledge Base. DO NOT attempt to install the Control Surface firmware, this will not help you and may render your device inoperable.
The Control Surface Firmware includes the following changes:
- Adds support for Sonar 4.03+, Live 5.02+, and Digital Performer 4.6+
- Fixes jog wheel issue on some units
- Adds jog wheel calibration function

The ProjectMix MIDI Application is qualified for use on the following operating system versions:
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista 32-bit
- Mac OS X 10.3.9
- Mac OS X 10.4.10
There are no known issues when using the ProjectMix MIDI Application to reprogram the control surface MIDI data on newer operating systems, however, attempting to run the firmware updater on newer unqualified operating systems such as Vista 64, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.5, and 10.6, can render the ProjectMix I/O inoperable.
DO NOT attempt to run the firmware updater if your device already has firmware 10.19.05a; you may render your device inoperable
DO NOT attempt to run the firmware updater on unqualified operating systems including Windows Vista 64, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.5, or Mac OS X 10.6, you may render your device inoperable.
If you have a ProjectMix I/O with the old control surface firmware, and are running on a qualified OS, please note that the control surface firmware update process may take between 7 and 10 minutes to complete. During the update, a progress bar on your computer screen indicates how long the update process will take. There is no progress indication on the ProjectMix I/O display. DO NOT disconnect or power off the device during this process as you may render your device inoperable.
If your ProjectMix I/O is not being recogized or is not installing, please refer ro the FAQ's and troubleshooting guides on the Knowledge Base. DO NOT attempt to install the Control Surface firmware, this will not help you and may render your device inoperable.
