Q: I'm using Oxygen with DirectLink to control Cubase 5 and when the selected track is for a VST instrument, the faders and knobs that I'm using to control the mixer are also changing parameters of the VST instrument. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
A: Yes, the control surface data is sent on MIDI channel 16 and can be filtered out using the Input Transformer in Cubase. With the track selected in the arrange view, the Input Transformer button is the one to the right of the M,S,R, W buttons (with an arrow). Click and set it to local so it only affects the selected track and the Input Transformer window should open. In the top half of the window, click the + to add an entry. The Filter Target should be "Channel"; Condition should be "equal", and Parameter 1 should be "16" (the control surface data is sent on Channel 16). At the bottom of the Window, the function should be set to "Filter" (not Transform). Then click the "power button" to enable the module and filter you just set up and the knobs and faders should no longer control the instrument. Note that the volume fader may still control the volume of the instrument.
