Setting your previous sound card as the default playback device (Windows XP)
Text size [-] [+]

After installing your M-Audio USB, FireWire, or PCI sound card, Windows designates this new device as the system default playback device.  However, you can follow these steps if you would like to use your laptop speakers or previous sound card for system sounds or applications such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, or WinAmp.

1. Open the Windows Control Panel.

2. With classic view enabled double click to open Sounds and Audio Devices.

3. On the Audio Tab, click the Sound playback drop-down to set the system default playback device

4. Click "Apply" and "OK"

Note: If your built-in sound card does not appear, you may need to re-enable it from your system's BIOS setup/configuration.  Please refer to the documentation for your computer/motherboard for entering and configuring this option in BIOS.
