Keystation Classic* installation and configuration in MacOS 9
Text size [-] [+]

Q: How do I install my Keystation classic*/Oxygen8 or Radium MIDI controller keyboard in Mac OS 9?

A:
- We recommend the USB Floppy Enabler to be installed since this accelerates the USB ports in MacOS 9.x. This driver is not included on the M-Audio Driver CD. You can download it here: http://www.paceap.com/USB_Floppy_Enabler_Inst.hqx. Make sure to re-start the Computer after installing the USB Floppy enabler.
- Install OMS 2.3.8. Without OMS, your Macintosh doesn’t know what MIDI is. OMS can be found on the M-Audio Driver CD. Open the OMS 2.3.8 folder and run Install OMS 2.3.8. Restart the computer after the OMS installation is complete.
- Run the Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium driver installer, version 3.0.8. This installer places all necessary files in the right folders. M-Audio USB MIDI Support will be placed in System Folder->Extensions. M-Audio OMS Support will be placed in System Folder->OMS Folder. If older driver files are present (e.g. MIDIMAN USB Support, MIDIMAN OMS Support, Keystation driver, loader and shim), they will be removed.
- Restart the computer.
- Connect the Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium to the back of your Computer. Do NOT connect it to the USB port on your Macintosh keyboard. Some USB hubs might also cause problems, so we recommend to test the Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium when connected directly to the computer at first.
- Make sure that AppleTalk is turned off. When starting OMS with AppleTalk on, you will be asked if OMS should turn it off for you. This sometimes doesn’t work reliably, so it would be better to turn AppleTalk off manually beforehand (Apple menu->Chooser->AppleTalk->Inactive).
- Run OMS Setup from Macintosh HD->Opcode->OMS Applications.
- If the New Studio Setup doesn’t open automatically, click on the file menu and select Create New Studio Setup. Click OK.
- The OMS Driver Search Window will be displayed. Do NOT select Modem- or Printer port.
- Click Search. OMS scans and identifies the Keystation classic Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium and displays it in a list among with other MIDI components. Click OK.
- The Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium will be displayed with a virtual Keyboard with a question mark on Top of it. There is a checkbox next to this virtual Keyboard with a question mark. Make sure to activate this check box. Then click OK.
- Save this configuration as "My Studio Setup". OMS is now configured.
- Click on the Studio Menu, select Test Studio and play some notes. A voice saying “MIDI received” indicates that everything is working properly. If you don’t hear the voice, have a look at the small arrows going to- and from the virtual keyboard on screen. If one of them is flashing shortly after you are playing a MIDI note, you can be sure the Keystation classic/Oxygen8/Radium is working correctly.
- Quit OMS Setup.

*Keystation classic refers to the original Keystation Series which consists of the Keystation 49 (not "49e") and Keystation 61 (not "61es"), Radium 49 / 61 and Oxygen 8.
