Q: Is the DirectLink personality the same as or part of the Axiom (2nd gen) driver?

A: The Axiom driver is what enables the Axiom keyboard to communicate and work with your computer’s operating system. The Axiom (2nd gen) keyboards are class-complaint on Windows and Mac OS X, which means there are MIDI drivers for the device that are part of the operating system. There is an optional Windows driver that enables advanced functionality including multi-client support, and support for larger SysEx transfers. This optional driver is not required for DirectLink. There are no drivers that can be installed for Mac OS X.

The DirectLink personalities are the control surface profiles that automatically map the Axiom (2nd gen) controls to parameters in the supported DAW applications. DirectLink is built into Pro Tools 8.0.4 and Ableton Live 8.1.4 and higher; there are no DirectLink personalities to install for these applications. The DirectLink personalities for the other supported applications must be installed to use the automatic mapping functionality of DirectLink.
