Is the Uber microphone compatible with my computer?
The Uber mic is compatible with Windows 7 and higher, and Mac OS 10.10.5 and higher. An available USB port on the computer will be necessary to connect the Uber to the computer. Please be sure to also check the system requirements for any DAW or other software being used with the microphone.
Does the Uber microphone require any drivers?
The Uber microphone is completely class-compliant, meaning there is no need to install any additional drivers for Mac or Windows operating systems.
Does the Uber microphone have switchable polar patterns?
Yes, the Uber microphone has 4 switchable polar patterns: Cardioid, Stereo, Figure-8, and Omnidirectional.
What is the microphone's frequency response?
The Uber microphone offers a frequency response range of 30Hz to 20kHz.
Do I need to use phantom power or a power supply with this microphone?
No additional power is necessary to power the Uber microphone. The USB cable will provide sufficient power to the microphone.
Which side is the front?
The Uber microphone is a side-address microphone, meaning the capsule is parallel to its body. The microphone will accept sound from sources perpendicular to the microphone body when using a cardioid polar pattern, as opposed to a front-address microphone, like the Shure SM58, that accepts sound from its top or end.*
When positioning the Uber, the front will be the side marked by the display and output volume knob. Point this side towards your source for the best results.
* The Uber microphone will accept signal from the front and back when using the figure 8 polar pattern, left and right when using the stereo polar pattern, and all sides when using the omni polar pattern.
When using the stereo polar pattern, which side is left?
When using the stereo polar pattern with the Uber microphone, the left side will become the left signal and the right side will become the right signal. Use a stereo track in your recording software to capture the signal properly.
How do I use the Mic-USB knob?
The Mic-USB knob (bottom, front-side) is used to adjust the mix of direct and USB signals when monitoring through the headphone output on the Uber microphone. Turn the knob towards MIC (left) to hear more of the direct microphone signal, or turn the knob towards USB to hear more of the return signal from the computer (i.e. software playback).
It is recommended to keep this knob turned fully towards USB when not using the microphone for optimal playback signal.
For what types of recording applications can this microphone be used?
The Uber microphone is an ideal solution for recording voice in applications such as voiceover work, podcasting, and even recording vocals for singer/songwriters. Its wide frequency range and various polar patterns allow the Uber microphone to record instruments as well.
Can the stand be removed from the Uber microphone?
Yes, the Uber microphone's stand unscrews from its base. The Uber microphone can also be removed from the integrated mount via the thumbscrews on the sides of the microphone.
How do I mount the microphone onto a stand or boom?
After the Uber microphone has been removed from its base, it can be connected to a boom pole via the threading at the bottom of the microphone or on the bottom of the integrated mount. The included microphone stand extender can be used in the event that the mini-USB port is blocked from making a proper connection at the bottom of the microphone.
Can I connect multiple Uber microphones via USB to my computer?
Yes, it is possible to combine multiple Uber microphones when using a Mac operating system. An aggregate device can be used to combine the microphones into a single device that can then be used by your software. See the link below for more information on creating an aggregate device.
The mute button is flashing but I can still hear the microphone signal. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. When mute is activated on the Uber microphone, the button will flash and the microphone signal will not be sent to the computer. If the MIC-USB knob is turned towards MIC, the direct signal will continue to be heard in the headphones.
